On March, 9, 2011 the Pahrump Regional Planning Commission approved Symphony Animal Foundation's request for a Conditional Use Permit to build their no kill sanctuary. This will be Pahrump's first no kill animal sanctuary and is long over due. Laraine Russo Harper is the Founder of Symphony Animal Foundation (SAF), a 501(c) non profit corporation. When asked when SAF will open, Harper said, "I am hopeful that we will be up and running by late Spring. The longer it takes; the more animals they kill, so we can't afford to waste any time." SAF has a number of fundraisers scheduled to help raise the funds needed to build their facility. Land was graciously donated to SAF for their use by a long time Pahrump resident. Harper, is also the author of "Legal Tender; True Tales of a Brothel Madam." She donates all the proceeds from her book to Symphony Animal Foundation. Harper, driven by her love of animals, was destined to create a safe haven for abandoned, abused and neglected animals. Symphony Animal Foundation was named in memory of Harper's two original St. Bernards; Beethoven and Mozart. "I am so happy that the Pahrump Regional Planning Commission realizes the need for a facility such as SAF and I am hopeful that the rest of the building process goes as smoothly as our Conditional Use Permit went," Harper stated. "I am very grateful to the Regional Planning Commission for their support of this project." Anyone who would like to help SAF accomplish their goal of "No More Pound Bound Animals" is urged to email safanimals@aol.com or call (702) 528-4997. # # # A no kill animal sanctuary which provides a safe haven for unwanted, abandoned and/or abused domestic animals.
