April 19, 2011 - PRLog -- It has been a long winter, and the business organizations on and around Long Beach Island have been planning the first offical Opening of the Beach and Welcoming of  Summer on May 21 beginning at 1030am at the 17th Street Beach entrance (oceanside) in Ship Bottom. The Long Beach Island Region DMO, along with representaives of the , Ship Bottom Merchant's Association, Southern Ocean County Chamber of Commerce, ReClam the Bay, Long Beach Island Foundation for Arts & Sciences, Tuckerton Seaport, and Ship Bottom Republican Club are ready to welcome visitors who come to enjoy the sun soaked days of summer as part of their Jersey Shore vacation or getaway.

Families and beach goers have their choice of activities happening in the morning; which  will kick off with a free LBI Surf Fishing Clinic on the 17th Street Beach hosted by Oceanside Bait and Tackle at 1030am, as well as a " Welcome the Summer Breeze" Kite Contest sponsored by The Breeze FM  Radio Station. Join the Breeze live on the 17th Street Beach Entrance for a chance to win great prizes, like a VIP pass to the Lighthouse International Film Festival, Island Surf and Sun Gift Certificates and Tuckerton Seaport passes. Bring your  kite that best depicts summer for a chance to win while checking out the latest gear from Island Surf and Sun for a hands on demo.

At 11am Congressman Jon Ruynan has been invited by the LBI Region DMO and the Ship Bottom Republican Club along with  Ocean County Freeholders, Assemblywoman Diane Gove as well as other local officials to welcome the seaon by cutting the ribbon to the beach entrance held up between two of ReClam the Bays Giant art inspired Clams, with music and entertainment provided by The Breeze.
