March 9, 2011 - PRLog -- HOUSTON – The Houston office of Gardere Wynne Sewell LLP has been named a “Star Volunteer” by the Houston Bar Association for the firm’s pro bono work through the Houston Volunteer Lawyers Program and the Equal Access to Justice Program.

The firm is highlighted in the March/April 2011 issue of the Houston Bar Bulletin. The Houston Volunteer Lawyers Program helps low-income citizens that other programs often cannot serve.

The individual lawyers who will be recognized are Partners Stephen L. Moll, who heads up the Houston office’s pro bono efforts, Amy Dinn and William Matthews, and Associates Rex G. Baker IV, Kathlyn Coulter Curtis, Jordan Isom, Greg Meeks, Tracy Penn, Elizabeth M. Reza,  Mike Seely and  Jennifer Smith.

“I’m proud of every lawyer at our firm who works to provide those in need with access to our justice system,” says Mr. Moll. “Having coordinated our firm’s pro bono work for almost 15 years, I truly appreciate the good work HVLP does that allows us to focus on providing the pro bono services themselves rather than spending time on administration and screening.”

Providing legal services to those who would otherwise go unrepresented and giving back to the communities we serve has always been a priority for the firm, says Steve Good, Gardere’s Managing Partner.

“Gardere takes pro bono work seriously,” Mr. Good says. “Not only does it help those in need of our services, but it also provides valuable experience for our younger lawyers. Being a lawyer is a privilege, and providing pro bono service is an important aspect of being a good corporate citizen. We’re grateful to organizations like HVLP that make the pro bono experience such a positive one.”

Gardere Wynne Sewell LLP, an AmLaw 200 firm founded in 1909 and one of the Southwest's largest full-service law firms, has offices in Austin, Dallas, Houston and Mexico City. Gardere provides legal services to private and public companies and individuals in areas of government affairs, energy, litigation, corporate, tax, environmental, labor and employment, intellectual property and financial services.
