March 8, 2011 - PRLog -- Miami—On Wednesday, April 27th, Women's Fund of Miami-Dade -- the only grantmaking organization in Miami-Dade entirely dedicated to funding gender-specific programs – will be hosting The Power of the Purse: Seeds of Change Luncheon at the Hyatt Regency Miami, 400 SE 2nd Ave. The Power of the Purse is symbolic of our ability to profoundly impact women and girls in Miami by supporting gender-specific programs and raising awareness of the connection between poverty, low self-esteem, inadequate healthcare, job access, domestic violence, sexual assault…and being female.

Abigail Disney, named one of 150 Extraordinary Women Who Shake the World by Newsweek and The Daily Beast, will be the keynote speaker at Women’s Fund 15th Annual Power of the Purse Luncheon to be held on April 27, 2011 at the Hyatt Regency Miami at Miami Convention Center.  Ms. Disney has produced a number of documentaries focused on social themes. Her latest, "Sun Come Up," was nominated for an Oscar. The story follows the relocation of some of the Carteret Islanders living on a remote island chain in the South Pacific Ocean, and now, some of the world’s first environmental refugees. Her current project, “Women, War & Peace,” is in production for PBS Wide Angle by her production company, Fork Films.

Proceeds from the luncheon will benefit the Women’s Fund’s grantmaking, advocacy and community-building efforts that address the unmet needs of women and girls in Miami-Dade County.
