March 15, 2011 - PRLog -- 1. Pick a Dress Pattern
Before you can sew your dress you need to know exactly what it is you are sewing. Is it a short dress, a long one? Is it casual or formal? Go to the store and pick out a pattern that you love.

2. Choose Your Material

Pick out what type of material you want. The right fabric material and colors will make a huge difference in how your dress will look and feel when it is finished.

3. Size Out Your Material

Lay out your pattern pieces and lay out your material to make sure you have more than enough to cover it all. Remember to take special consideration if you are using a material that is striped or has any sort of printed designs and you want those to match up well. Make sure to get extra fabric just in case you need it.

4. Get Your Material Ready for Cutting
You need to realize that material will shrink up a bit so make sure to pre-shrink it unless you already bought preshrunk fabric. To pre-shrink fabric yourself dip it in luke-warm water and then dry it by pressing it with a cloth. Also, be sure to iron out the edges of the material you plan to use, if you cannot iron it try to make the edges as straight as possible. Be sure to remove all wrinkles and creases that may still be remaining.

5.Pin Your Pattern Pieces to Your Material

Next get some pins out and pin everything to your material so you can be sure to center them the way you want them. When folding always fold your right side in, not your left. If your material is slippery be sure to use plenty of extra pins to keep it from moving out of place.

6. Time to Cut
Use some really good sharp and long scissors and be sure to keep both your material and your pattern on your table as flat as possible. Try not to pick it up or else you can mess up the pinnings. Try not to lift your scissors up too high and take very long cuts instead of small ones.

7. Sew the Pieces Together
Now you know how to sew a dress and are ready to put everything together.
