The going is good for Cheltenham @ The Bowery
It’s that time of the year again, where the country goes horse mad.  However, this year a trip across the pond is not necessary in order to get a flavour for the Cheltenham experience as one Cork venue has gone that extra furlong by bringing Cheltenham to Cork.
The Bowery, Tuckey Street (off Grand Parade) Cork’s newest entertainment venue, has today announced Cheltenham @ The Bowery – with odds-on that Wednesday next March 16th will be a ‘winner all right’!   With its four bars including three rooms of music, and a rooftop bar and terrace overlooking Grand Parade’s Peace Park, The Bowery’s city centre location is the ideal ‘steal away to the races’ venue!
From lunchtime to night-time punters can expect to enjoy tasty delights prepared and cooked before them by The Bowery Chef (with compliments of the ‘owners and trainers’ at The Bowery), racing on the big screen, and ladies vying for a photo finish to win the Best Dressed Lady competition!   With the après-racing party expected to continue well into the night, DJs and a live band are odds-on favourites to keep the punters hopping, with even money on Corkonians booking that half-day off!
Silks and colours, are not solely the preserve of jockeys and hats and suits are not just for royals - the word is out:  the racing fraternity are under starter’s orders to get into the festival spirit by dressing for a day at the races. So brace yourselves boys – it’s Ladies Day @ The Bowery also, with Cork’s stylish ladies due to go the distance and parade in their finery!
Not to be out done, there’s a special award for The Best Dressed Male, the Best Hat, and the Best Dressed Couple.  Revellers can also hit the jackpot with a stable-full of fantastic prizes on the day.
Munster Rugby stars Lifeimi Mafi, Peter Borlase, and Leinster man Isa Nacewa are expected to pop in during the event to auction some rugby memorabilia in their quest to raise funds for the New Zealand earthquake victims – now there’s some competition in the style stakes guys!

Promoters Rory O’Connell and DJ Mike Darcy (Kickback) told us that “with some great nights coming up over Paddy’s week, the venue will also host ‘The Bowery Irish Beer Festival’ in conjunction with The Franciscan Well on Thursday 17th Of March (Paddy’s Day) commencing at 3pm with live music, DJs, and of course a wide selection of local and world beers.  Kickback, the popular club night will also celebrate a Paddy’s weekend party at the venue on Friday 18th March. We are expecting that people will enjoy The Bowery Experience and would urge them, as always, to drink sensibly.”
Friday and Saturday nights see the venue operate as a sophisticated nightclub, and the venue is a popular outlet for corporate and private parties at other times, hosting birthday parties, company awards events, reunions and club events from time to time.

Editors Notes:
The Bowery opened above The Slate on Tuckey Street 3 months ago and provides 40 jobs.

The name The Bowery stems from the New York area and is the oldest thoroughfare on Manhattan Island. It originated in the mid 1600s, and eventually became a mainly Irish populated borough, renowned for its late night revelry. It was once described as the 'Liveliest Mile’ on the face of the globe.

The Bowery

Having opened its doors only three months ago The Bowery on Tuckey Street has already established itself as one of Cork city’s best venues. The fact it was chosen for the launch of The Murphy’s Little Big Nights Out on February 24th is testament to the quality of this venue. With its four bars, three rooms of music, and a rooftop bar and terrace overlooking the Peace Park, The Bowery has got a lot to offer.

Promoter Rory O’Connell and DJ Mike Darcy (Kickback) are the pair behind The Bowery. Mike was the brains behind the hugely popular and unique club night Kickback, which ran successfully for five years at The Everyman, Cork.  Kickback now has a new home every Friday at The Bowery. Rory O’Connell’s background is in event management and advertising. Having previously promoted a number of successful gigs, Rory was brought in to handle the marketing of the venue. However, the pair are quick to point out that they are a part of a large team. “With over 40 full and part-time staff employed in The Bowery, we certainly can’t take all the credit. We’ve got a good team around us,” – said Rory O’Connell.
