Lynn Frances of eDiscovery Writer interviewed Christopher La Cour, Founder and Executive Director of the Carmel Valley eDiscovery Retreat, scheduled for July 17-20 in 2011.

March 8, 2011 - PRLog -- Here are some of the highlights of our conversation.

eDW

Chris, how will this event differ from others?

CLC

There are several differences. Size being one of them. Because of our venue, on-site attendance will be limited. I like that fact because attendees will be given more opportunities to develop meaningful relationships. The Carmel Valley eDiscovery Retreat was created largely in part, to assist in strengthening the West Coast eDiscovery community as a whole. It’s no secret that the majority of well-recognized/attended eDiscovery related events are held on the East Coast. The East Coast has a strong presence in the industry and the West Coast should be the same. The Carmel Valley eDiscovery Retreat will make a effort to combine both education and social activities in a unique location. Carmel, CA is a world-renowned destination known for its white-sand beaches, cypress trees, and performing arts. Lastly, the retreat will include family-friendly amenities that will appeal to both adults and kids.

eDW

How will you combine education with social activities?

CLC

Carmel Valley Ranch and its grounds create a relaxed/intimate setting, which will set the tone for the retreat. I expect attendees to have more casual interactions with one another throughout the three days. Also, since the resort offers golf, tennis, and all sorts of other activities, there will be lots of opportunities to make new connections and strengthen existing ones outside of the retreat.

eDW

What is so different about the location?

CLC

Carmel is arguably, one of the most beautiful places in the U.S. Breathtaking scenery, European charm – wait until you see the sunsets…

eDW

You said that the event would include family-friendly amenities. That is different. Tell me more about that.

CLC

The resort recently underwent a $35 million face-lift. There are unique things to do while on-site for both adults and kids. They’ve got hiking trails, tree houses, a splash zone for kids, and much more. Significant others can enjoy the spa, fitness activities, and classes. They have unusual classes like organic gardening and bee keeping. Or they can spend time in neighboring cities such as Pebble Beach for example and drive through 17- Mile Drive, which is widely recognized as one of the most scenic drives in the world. Attendees of the Carmel Valley eDiscovery Retreat will be given an opportunity to go out and explore Carmel-by-the-Sea as we have plans to provide shuttles to and from Ocean Avenue.

eDW

What can you tell me about the program?

CLC

I’m excited about our presenters. All of them have a considerable amount of experience in eDiscovery, made a significant impact in the eDiscovery world, and continue to strive for better education, improved processes, etc. We are developing the retreat in such a way that attendees will be provided with an opportunity to participate rather than just being lectured at. We want more interaction so that we get more in-depth communication and attendees can leave with real answers.

eDW

How do you plan to do that?

CLC

By adding smaller breakout sessions where you and your peers will have a chance to share experiences and solutions. Also, we want our panels to address attendees’ issues so we plan on reaching out to the bench, in-house corporate legal departments, law firms, and expert consultants pre-retreat.

eDW

Is there anything else you’d like to share with readers?

CLC

Yes. Please be sure to visit the website frequently for updates regarding the Carmel Valley eDiscovery Retreat. Agenda topics are underway and we look forward to seeing you next year!
