Laura Zubulake to Deliver a Keynote Address at 2011 Carmel Valley eDiscovery Retreat

Laura Zubulake worked on Wall Street for nearly 20 years in institutional equity departments marketing and trading convertible and derivative securities, macro-economic analysis, and research on Asian equities. In 1991, her book The Complete Guide to Convertible Securities Worldwide was published by John Wiley & Sons. She earned a M.B.A. in economics from New York University.

In February 2002 she became the plaintiff in Zubulake v. UBS. Intimately involved in all aspects of her case, she made key decisions concerning electronic discovery. Rather than pursue settlement, she searched for the electronic evidence she believed existed on backup tapes. Her multi-year efforts resulted in several landmark opinions concerning counsel’s obligations for the preservation of ESI. In April 2005, a federal jury unanimously found in favor of Ms. Zubulake on both claims. The December 2006 changes to the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure were in part influenced by the Zubulake opinions concerning electronic discovery.

Ms. Zubulake resides in New York City. She has spoken at conferences and law schools (www.LauraZubulake.com) concerning e-discovery. She has authored a book about her experiences and is working on a new business in the area of information governance.
