March 5, 2011 - PRLog -- Award-winning author, Guy Nair, said today that his debut novel, The Vulcan Precept, is now available as an e-book on: www.smashwords.com, a site that is the brainchild of Mark Coker, a Silicon Valley wiz, and which makes e-books available on multiple e-platforms, including Nook, Kobo, Apple ipad, Sony, and even your good old PC.  The novel was made available on Amazon’s Kindle platform recently, where sales have taken off.  By making it available on the Smashwords site, Guy hopes to reach an even wider audience of readers who love a good conspiracy theory.

The Vulcan Precept is much more than a conspiracy theory, though.  It is Orwellian!  The National Security Agency, in its quest to track down terrorists, has invented what Guy Nair so appropriately labels “a monster born of righteous indignation.”

Not many American citizens are aware of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act, signed into law by President Jimmy Carter in 1978—the NSA’s equivalent of the CIA’s charter of 1947—which effectively banned the agency from conducting any form of domestic surveillance without the blessings of a special court.  One can, therefore, imagine the legal consequences—take note, O Ye Lawyers of the ACLU—if the agency was found to be in contempt of that law.  Vulcan, a spy satellite sitting up there in the sky, happens to be doing more than just listening in to you—if armed, it will “prescribe death” for anyone who dares utter a “wrong” word in any conversation.

One can only guess about how many liberties we were deprived of during the Bush-Cheney reign.  Reproduced below are excerpts from reviewers:

A complex plot of conspiracy and intrigue, this novel presents a mind-bending tale . . . .  A thought-provoking thriller that will keep readers on the edge of their seats.

A good old-fashioned international espionage adventure except you can exclude the “old-fashioned” part.  Sure there’s cloak and dagger.  But Nair’s firm grasp of technology and his torn-from-the-headlines take on world affairs makes The Vulcan Precept as fresh as today’s news.  This page-turning novel will have readers on edge throughout.  The main characters [are] both likeable and intriguing on several levels.  Dr. Menon, a wily combination of technology geek, Cary Grant romantic and political firebrand, proves to be the perfect running mate.
Nair loves to explore his back-story in non-linear fashion, much as film director Quentin Tarantino did in his masterpieces.  He has created an exciting world.  This is an excellent beach read and will be an enjoyable thrill ride.  No one who picks up the book will be disappointed.
