Seven of MothUP Atlanta's Best Storytellers to Perform March 18th in Atlanta

MothUP Atlanta has taken the city by storm! There have been standing room only crowds at Manuel's Tavern the fourth Tuesday of every month. The Southern Order of Storytellers has added a new show to its festival lineup featuring 7 of these tellers.

March 5, 2011 - PRLog -- It was February of 2010 when Joyce Mitchell and Randy Osborne brought MothUP Atlanta to Manuel's Tavern.  They expected maybe 20-25 people that first night, but they had 75!  The crowds have grown to standing room only.  If you want to see the monthly MothUP show in Atlanta, you must arrive at least thirty minutes early.  Mark your calendars for the 4th Tuesday of every month!

Seven storytellers, who are MothUP regulars, have been chosen to perform at the 29th Annual Storytelling Festival of the Southern Order of Storytellers.  They are:  Shannon McNeal, Mike Baireuther, Audrey Galex, Neville Carson, Larry England, Stacey Beth Shulman, and Linda Martin.

The show is March 18, 2011 at 9:30pm.  This is an adult audience show.  It will be held as a part of the Southern Order of Storytellers festival at the UUCA Performance Space, 1911 Cliff Valley Way, NE, Atlanta, 30329.  Tickets are $5.00 and are available online through http://southernorderofstorytellers.org/festival/.

Shannon McNeal is one of the featured storytellers of MothUP Atlanta.  MothUP Atlanta tagged her to perform alongside George Dawes Green (the founder of The Moth) at both the Decatur Book Festival and on the Unchained Tour.  Shannon was born and raised in a storytelling family in Alabama, well, except for those two yet to be explained years in Ohio.  MothUP Atlanta has been the perfect setting for Shannon to launch her personal tells about her family.  Shannon has a talent for bringing humor to all life's situations, and the story for this show will be no exception.  This is a story about love and loss you will not want to miss.

Neville Carson has been telling stories in Atlanta for over a decade. Last year he took a break from family-style storytelling to practice non-fiction, adult telling as presented at MothUP Atlanta. For this show he tells of the time his skull got dented by an outboard boat motor.   Neville's stories are always heartfelt and touching.  He is not a teller to miss if you enjoy learning and laughing from life's lessons.

Linda Martin, who comes from a family of storytellers, is an award-winning Teacher-Librarian at Sugar Hill Elementary School in Gainesville, Georgia .  Linda has performed at schools, libraries, bookstores and festivals across the country.  Linda will share a story about her father’s life changing experience that led him to channel Kenny Rogers.  This story will have you laughing at Linda's pain for days!  Linda is also currently on the Board of the Southern Order of Storytellers.

Larry Clayton England has attended and told a story at almost every MothUP Atlanta event and his skills as a teller are becoming sharper each day.  He worked as a conductor for the Georgia Railroad; hired by AJ Richardson who said "you like being outdoors and you resent the hell out of authority, you’ll make a good railroad man."  In his younger days England fought with the Herd in Vietnam.  Larry's stories about Vietnam are beautiful and painful.  He will share a war story with us.

Stacey Beth Shulman hails from a family who has mastered the art of small business - liquor stores, pawn shops, army/navy supply, printers, just to name a few.  Stacey Beth has her own, combining her love of yoga and art in order to live a more creative life at http://www.curvyyogini.com.  Stacey Beth is a delightful storyteller who always seems to get herself in and out of amazing predicaments.  She will share a story about joyriding in Athens while a college student.

Audrey Galex, a veteran Atlanta storyteller, currently helps create programming and content for Atlanta Interfaith Broadcasters, AIB-TV and aibnet.tv.  A former board member of SOS, she believes adults need to hear and share stories that reflect our deepest desires and fears, to celebrate the fullness of our shared humanity and to more fully understand the human condition.  She will be sharing a story about love that you do not want to miss.

Mike Baireuther is one of MothUP Atlanta's favorite tellers.  He brings youth and fun to every situation!  He describes himself as "born a long time ago in a galaxy far away. After radioactive spider bit him, he dedicated his life to fighting crime. Now, with Leonardo, Donatello, and Raphael, Michael works as a full-time party dude."  Mike will share a story about growing up in a town populated by the Amish and the elderly.

This show should be on your top five things to do in 2011!  It promises to be a show that will leave you laughing, crying, laughing, and laughing some more.
