By: N.A.A.C.P., Mount Vernon, NY Chapter The purpose of the forum is to discuss the potential impacts of Charter Schools in Mount Vernon, NY, and the reduction in educational funding to the Mount Vernon City School District. It is well known that the Mount Vernon Schools have been struggling in recent years. The Mount Vernon City School District is in need of additional funding from New York State. Questions for answers will include the following: • Will Charter Schools place an additional burden upon a school district that has been struggling financially with failed budgets not passed by the community? • What is the real impact of Charter Schools upon residents, homeowners, and taxpayers in a School District which has one of the highest tax rates in New York State? • What is “Article 78” and how does it relate to Mount Vernon residents and Charter Schools?
