March 2, 2011 - PRLog -- Cap Rocat, Mallorca re-opens for the 2011 season in April following a sell-out debut

(London – March 2011)  Yoga on the beach, new water sports, cookery lessons in the old fortress kitchen.  Just some of the things that are new for 2011 at Cap Rocat, Mallorca.  The chic hideaway re-opens for its second season on 1st April 2011, following a sensational debut last summer.

It might have been a 19th century military fortress, but there was nothing hostile about the reviews of Cap Rocat when it opened last summer.  Despite its martial past being clearly visible – the drawbridge, bunkers, trenches and shooting pads converted into suites – Cap Rocat embodies the spirit of peaceful, barefoot chic.  This was something that delighted Pablo Carrington, the creative force behind the hotel:

“Cap Rocat was always meant to be about simple luxury and a complete lack of ostentation.  We looked at what was here already:  the architecture, the local products and the food - and worked with them.  Having lived in Mallorca, I am very aware of its strong cultural traditions.  But tradition is not about nostalgia, it’s about identity.”

In an environmentally protected area, with very special bird and sea life, set on its own incredibly private peninsula, Cap Rocat has 270 degree views of the Bay of Palma.  All this just 20 minutes from Palma Airport.

This really is a hideaway – perfect for anyone feeling under siege from life’s challenges:   the fortress was so ingeniously built into the cliffs that, despite its huge walls and ramparts, the building can’t been seen from the mainland or the sea. Only the canopies of the rooftop lounges on the terrace are visible on the horizon. Once over the drawbridge, guests are checked in at reception (the old gatehouse) and the feeling truly is of casting off the cares of the world.

The hotel’s subtle interiors by Antonio Obrador, (known for his work for European movers and shakers, including Claudia Schiffer) – include playful touches that give a nod to the building’s less serene past:  bullets used as door handles and gun carriages as coffee tables.  Inside the peaceful, cool lounges, Antonio uses local fabrics, Moroccan rugs and vintage black & white photos of Mallorca to brilliant effect.  Every room is an oasis of comfort and calm, with private terraces and views.

The dazzling salt water infinity pool has been built on top of one of the fortress walls – with incredible views which take a lot of beating.    Or swim around the former pier in the crystal clear waters of the Mediterranean – which are miraculously clean here, as they are part of the natural reserve in which the hotel sits.

Pablo and Cap Rocat’s staff have been hard at work during the winter, refining everything Cap Rocat has to offer – just making it better for 2011.
