March 2, 2011 - PRLog -- The image of the starving artist is one that’s indelibly marked in our collective minds. And so it seems unlikely that they would be the first ones to step up to offer financial support to charitable causes. But the fact that many artists struggle to make ends meet while honing their craft also makes them more attune to recognizing the hardships of others. One Alberta author, Erika Knudsen, is proving that artists – in particular writers – are often best-poised to lend a hand.

As an independent writer and publisher, Knudsen is no stranger to the economic hardships that many charitable organizations face. So last month the author donated 30% of the proceeds from all books purchased (Awakened, Beyond the Threshold of Death, and Resurrected) directly to A Dog’s Life Rescue in California. As a writer of supernatural thrillers, the choice of charity was a perfect fit for Knudsen, “I’m a huge fan of the series Supernatural, and one of its stars, Jared Padalecki, is a major supporter of the organization. Coupling that with the fact that I’m a huge animal lover, and doing this was a no-brainer!”

Funds raised for the cause go towards providing medical care, food, and shelter to homeless animals. Anyone who wishing to continue Knudsen’s fundraising efforts should visit www.adogsliferescue.org to learn more about the organization or to donate directly to the cause.  For more information about the author and her books visit her website and blog at www.erispublishing.com.
