When you consider the do it yourself options for web sites out there today, you can really get lost in what would work for you. Most often we see people using DIY templates available from phone companies or phone book sites, or Yahoo Site Builder. I think some of these work well for small starting out companies that really want to be placed somewhere on the map. The Phone book sites offer a really nice connection with their listings. DEX is a great resource for assisting small business in local google search criteria and keyword usage. They even offer a template site builder that can assist you in easy to understand and workable methods. This is a great service. And if you start with something like this try to use a localized domain name for it. As example: The Name of the X company is The Sand Inn. A good domain to host on DEX, of Yahoo, or another template site building service and host would be TheSandsInnFlorida.com.
Hopefully the strongest of the domain names for this you have registered already. Maybe the name "TheSandsInn.com"

The local searches and impressions as well as clicks are fantastic. Also worth the money!
Now... You main web site. The one that will grow as you grow, that will reach higher page ranking and ever improving organic SEO should be done professionally. There are probably thousands of web developers on your street.. Okay that is exaggerating some.

Now with Fonts... There are the general rules for web font usage based on browser and system compatibilities. But text used in images on the site can be different because they are not live text. So font usage is a big thing. Most often and us included will use maybe ten different fonts on a regular basis. They aren't even much different from one another really but we have a bank of 2500 fonts. We are not going to try all of them to see which you as a client will like. If you have something specific bring it to the attention of your designer. Then don't waver and try to see how the other ten you liked would look.

The technical side of a clean, proficient, expandable, and SEO friendly web site is so important. Knowing programing and coding languages such as HTML, PHP, CSS, java, C+, etc.. etc.. is what sets professional apart from the Do it Yourself web templates. There is that cost factor and when searching for a professional team or a freelance developer don't make them bid against each other and please don't go with the lowest bid just because it is a $199.99 special from a starving developer. We are not the cheapest around, but we are no where near the most expensive. We are fair and we only want to justify our working hours. There is no overhead cost for us. So our pricing has that factored in.
As Owner of even my own company I am amazed with what the developers on our staff can do. I can't do the things they can and I have a degree in that field too. The main point of all this is that there is no substitute for professionals. In any field of business. Look at the same as a Lawyer, an Accountant, a Doctor, or even a Mechanic. Some of these you can do yourself. But to what result? Would you defend yourself in a court of law? Would you want to operate on yourself? How does your taxes go for you when you do them your self? Are you satisfied or do you think what if I had an accountant... How often do you work on your car? Would you replace a motor in it if needed? Can you do any more than change your tire on it now?
