March 8, 2011 - PRLog -- NORCROSS, Georgia – Ashworth College (http://www.ashworthcollege.edu) announced today that Ashworth graduate Rodney Campbell, Raeford, NC, has been named 2011 Outstanding Graduate and presented with a certificate of recognition from the Distance Education and Training Council (DETC).

The DETC annually recognizes graduates who have excelled as distance education students. Campbell, a U.S. Army veteran, is among 43 graduates from 35 accredited DETC member institutions to be recognized this year.

A Louisiana native, it was Campbell’s father graduating college at the age of 50 that inspired him to go back to school. Since then, he has completed a total of four programs with Ashworth.

In addition to his recent Bachelor’s degree, Campbell also completed Ashworth’s Professional Project Management and Security Services programs and received his Associate Degree in Human Resources Management. He is hard at work on his next Ashworth program -- a Master’s of Science Degree in Management.

"Rodney is a great example of how online education can easily become part of everyday life, by successfully balancing family, career and studies,” said Gary M. Keisling, Ashworth College Chairman and CEO. “He is clearly a role model and we’re proud to have him as an Ashworth alumnus."

Currently a security manager for one the largest poultry plants in the country, his professional goal is to apply his military training and Ashworth education to move up in the company ranks.

“I choose Ashworth College because the support and motivation the school provides,” Campbell explained. “Ashworth has been more of an extended family then an institution of higher learning. I’m proud to say I’m an Ashworth College graduate.”

A proud father, Rodney also hopes to leave his son his legacy of making the world a better place. Active his community, he is a substitute teacher, a member of Fayetteville Young Professionals and Society of Human Resource Management, and contributes his time and talents on Habitat for Humanity build projects.

Ashworth College and DETC also recognized Falan Taylor, a professional chef and host of the online cooking series “Housewife Cuisine.” A graduate of Ashworth’s Professional Gourmet Cooking and Catering program, Taylor was among a select few graduates who were recognized for having achieved a degree of celebrity within their career field and for continuing to make positive contributions to the community.

“Our success is best viewed through the lens of what has happened to our graduates -- how they put their knowledge and skills to work to make a better life…how they achieve their goals,” said Michael P. Lambert, DETC Executive Director. “It’s gratifying to read about the successes of the graduates of our accredited colleges.”
