2011 Sonata Hybrid Delayed in Omaha by Hyundai

The new Sonata Hybrid availability date has been delayed yet again for Omaha at Edwards Hyundai. Hyundai is modifying all cars to meet federal regulations.

March 1, 2011 - PRLog -- Hyundai has announced a delay in the delivery date of the new 2011 Sonata Hybrid for Edwards Hyundai and all Hyundai dealers in Omaha. This time it is due to the lack of always-on engine noise. Federal regulation mandates that the Hybrid Sonata make noise similar to a gasoline-only vehicle as a warning system for pedestrians.

Hyundai originally included this noise making capability, but drivers had the ability to turn it off. The government requires that the warning system always be on to help protect pedestrians.

The 2011 Sonata Hybrid is not manufactured in Birmingham, AL like its gas-only couterpart. The Sonata Hybrid is built in Korea and this fact will further lengthen the amount of time until the fix is made and delivery.

Hyundai dealers in Omaha have been instructed to expect the Sonata Hybrid to arrive in April. Barring any more delays, Edwards Hyundai in Council Bluffs expects to receive their first Hybrid units at this time.
