By: Kacie Buzzard Trashion outfits and accessories were created and modeled by students on a catwalk. Dresses, vests, and pants were created out of duct tape and aluminum foil. Suspenders were made of Starburst wrappers. Skirts were constructed from recycled ties, trash bags, and newspapers. Students also chose to create their outfits using Capri Sun pouches and Coca Cola cans. Vanessa Cassady, a senior at Imagine Prep at Surprise, who created the Coca Cola dress ensemble and was very involved in the organization of the show said, “It was exciting showing off our designs for the first time. And throughout this process, I learned many valuable lessons; including, for an event to be successful it must be well organized.” All art students, grades 7-12 had a piece of work either displayed in Imagine Prep at Surprise’s art gallery or available for purchase at the gift shop. The art gallery showcased many kinds of student work; pencil sketches, magazine clipping collages, pen dot drawings, and oil paintings. Student work available in the gift shop, included; handcrafted mugs, bowls; can tab bracelets; tote bags; duct tape belts, wallets, bracelets; beaded bracelets; and card board bracelets. Jessica Hardy, the art teacher at Imagine Prep at Surprise and faculty sponsor of the event added, “I am incredibly proud of all of the students and their hard work, which allowed for an amazing show with fantastic turnout.” # # # Imagine Prep at Surprise is a college prep school in Surprise, Arizona educating students in grades 7-12.
