XXX Sandy Lane Barbados Gold Cup Post Position Draw for the Barbados Turf Club

Excitement continues during the final week of preparations for the XXX Sandy Lane Barbados Gold Cup. The Post Position Draw Press Conference was hosted by Sandy Lane Hotel on Thursday 24th February, 2011, during opening remarks Mr Robert Logan; General Manager of the Sandy Lane Hotel conveyed his excitement to be once again involved in this internationally recognised Group 1 race. He stated “Thank you to the owners, trainers and jockeys that have come together to make the 2011 Sandy Lane Barbados Gold Cup. This is a particularly memorable time for us at Sandy Lane Hotel as we also celebrate 50 years of operation.  Sandy Lane Hotel first opened in 1961, and reopened on the 19th March, 2001 by the current owners”.

Pam Marshall, Director of the Barbados Turf Club spoke from the heart “Thank you Derrick and Gay Smith, I am so happy and proud to be part of the Sandy Lane Barbados Gold Cup with a special thank you to Mr Derrick Smith for his inspiration and commitment when we were searching for a sponsor many years ago.”

Luther Miller, Vice President of the Barbados Turf Club expressed gratitude in Sandy Lane Hotel’s support of the Barbados Turf Club and in particular the sponsors making this the only Group 1 race in the Caribbean.  He made a special vote of thanks to the BTC staff who have been working hard to ensure the stands were race ready.

Festivities will continue this weekend with the Sandy Lane Hotel Motorcade on Saturday 26th February. The motorcade will commence at 10.00am at Kensington Oval travel to Independence Square for a concert with Kitorah and Toni Norville performing for the public from 11am to 12pm. Sandy Lane Hotel representatives welcomed the public to come out and enjoy the celebrations on Saturday.

About the Barbados Turf Club

The Barbados Turf Club, which regulates and promotes horse racing in Barbados, was established in 1905 and organizes three seasons of racing per year. With approximately 25 race meetings throughout the year running from January to April (Spring Season); May to September (Summer Season) and from November to December (Winter Season).
