By: Method Art Gallery John Maloney’s unique exhibition is based on Australian flora with historical references. His images bring to life beautiful flowers first collected in the late 18th and early 19th Centuries from around the Australian coast. The photographs are printed on canvas. Four images included in this exhibition are from the CENTENNIAL BANKSIA COLLECTION of nine species of Banksia present in the Botany Bay area, Sydney, Australia in 1770, at the time of the first landing. They were collected between 1770 and 1802 by Joseph Banks, David Nelson, John White, Luis Nee, and Robert Brown. The original collections remain in the archives in Madrid, London and Sydney. A further six images are from the KING GEORGE SOUND BANKSIA COLLECTION, and are representative of the eight species of Banksia present in the King George Sound area, Albany, Western Australia in 1801. These eight species were originally collected by Robert Brown, the botanist who accompanied Matthew Flinders on his circumnavigation of Australia on the HMS Investigator. This special exhibition is supported by a further six beautiful abstract images, three of banksias and three of cacti, also growing in Australia. The final image B.media was first collected in 1824 along the south coast of Australia from King George Sound. All images in this exhibition are of archival quality, printed in pigment on Chromata canvas or Fine Art Hahnemuhle paper. The Hahnemuhle papers have been in production since 1584. All images are of limited edition of 20. Each image is sold individually and the two complete collections are also available. End
