Feb. 25, 2011 - PRLog -- You can be embarrassed to smile heartily due to bad teeth conditions. Discoloured, Crooked, spaced teeth can take away your confidence to sport a lovely smile. But due to the boom in cosmetic dental industry, we now have Dental veneers. They  are made out of porcelain, composite bonding or ceramic. It is a thin layer of restorative material and can be placed over the tooth surface with resin cement.
If you wish to get dental veneers you would have to consult your dentists where your teeth would be examined. He would decide whether veneers should be fixed to all your teeth or to selected teeth. Generally veneers would be used if you have heavily stained teeth which cannot be whitened using teeth whitening solutions. Teeth can be discoloured due to root canal treatments, stains from tetracycline or other drugs, excessive fluoride and at times due to the presence of large resin fillings. Multiple veneers would be used to cover these.
Due to different factors they could wear off easily and would make the length of the teeth uneven. Veneers can be fitted to reshape and bring back the proper length. They can be also used to protect your chipped or broken teeth by further damage. They act like a cover to your tooth and will save it from being extracted.
As toddlers we may have perfectly aligned teeth but as the primary teeth fall off and the permanent teeth start to erupt it can get misaligned. Then you may have trouble in biting food and cleaning the teeth as well. To correct these, your dentist would use veneers. When the permanent teeth start to erupt at times there will be gaps between teeth. To close the space between these teeth an appropriate layer of restorative material would be used.
Apart from the above mentioned benefits. Veneers are known to last at least for 10 years. When fitting them minimal teeth reduction would occur compared to dental crown fitting and are also cost effective. You may have to replace veneers after a specific time period. Keeping this in mind the best type of restorative material that can be used to build them would be porcelain. They also resist stains better than resin veneers and can give a natural look that reflects light from its surface.
Another benefit of using a porcelain veneer would be that your gum tissues can easily tolerate them. Also the colour can be coordinated with your whiter teeth so that your darker teeth would appear to be naturally white. As mentioned earlier fitting a veneer would not require extensive shaping as crown do and will provide a more aesthetic step in giving you a smile makeover.
