Common and Powell teamed with AT&T to help spread the word to the next generation about the history and achievements of Africans in America.
Common is serving as the host of the program, which is in its third year, as it travels across the nation including stops already in Atlanta and Washington, D.C., with two more events to be held on February 24th in New York City and February 28th in Oakland, California.
The speakers for the February 24th and 28th events will be Daymond John, the co-founder of the FUBU clothing line and a current cast member of the hit show, "Shark Tank." John will speak in New York. In California, audiences will meet entrepreneur Cookie Johnson. Johnson is also the wife of Los Angeles Lakers basketball great, Earvin "Magic" Johnson.
Additionally, C-Style covered the dynamic symposium, "Heritage of Resistance: Redefining The Struggle," at The DuSable Museum of African American History. This symposium featured the descendants of four African-Americans whose legacies forever changed the face of entrepreneurship, medicine, intellectualism, and activism in our nation.
The symposium featured A'Lelia Bundles (great-great granddaughter of Madam C.J. Walker), Michelle Duster (great-granddaughter of Ida B. Wells), Charlene Drew Jarvis (daughter of Dr. Charles Drew), and Arthur McFarlane, II (great grandson of W.E.B. DuBois).
