Feb. 24, 2011 - PRLog -- Powerline networking specialist devolo has launched its dLAN 200 AV USB extender, enabling USB printers and USB hard drives to join the home network through the mains supply, a world first via powerline.

Featuring a USB port rather than an Ethernet interface, the dLAN 200 AV USB Extender allows USB devices, such as printers and hard drives, to be easily integrated into the dLAN home network; providing a quick and easy plug-and-play solution for home users.

USB printers and hard drives are directly connected to the dLAN 200 AV USB extender, which offers the potential for any power outlet in the home to provide a USB port. While ensuring that all network users have access to important documents, music and photos across the home, the latest adapter also allows access by more than one individual to USB devices at any time, without them being connected locally.

Heiko Harbers, CEO of devolo AG said: "As the powerline specialist, we are always seeking to add innovative solutions to our product line and design powerline solutions that provide valuable benefits to network users. The dLAN 200 AV USB extender makes conventional USB printers and USB hard drives network-compatible and enables flexible positioning of these devices throughout the home.”

Acting as a USB cable of up to 300m, through the powerline the USB extender offers network users greater flexibility in placing connected products, such as a printer, around the home, with the length of the USB cable no longer being a restriction.

Data security has also been a key consideration in the dLAN 200 AV USB Extender’s development and to ensure protection of the network, signals can be encrypted at the touch of a button. The USB Extender can also be easily configured in the dLAN AV home network using devolo’s dLAN Cockpit software.

Peter Huddleston, UK operations manager at devolo said: “The latest adapter has been developed for the convenience of its users. Not only does it provide flexibility, but with a built-in encryption option, it offers users a secure and easy way to add USB devices to the home network with minimal installation.”

The dLAN 200 AV USB extender starter kit is retailing at £99.99 inc VAT. The standalone version is also available at a retail price of £69.99. Both products include the devolo 3-year warranty.
