awarded Grammys as Producer and Engineer for the Diamond Rio album “The
Reason” at the 53rd Grammy Awards Show. Clute’s past work has garnered
nearly 100 CMA, ACM, Dove, Juno, and Grammy nominations and awards but
these are his first and second Grammys after twenty-four prior nominations.
The number of Grammy winners from North Dakota is very small and Clute
said, “A Grammy is really the pinnacle of recognition for a guy like me.
Growing up in a farm town I only dreamed about holding one of these, and 25
years later... the dream is real!”
Clute graduated from high school in Adams ND and is an NDSU alumnus. He
started as a performer in Fargo/Moorhead area rock bands in the late 70's and
early 80's (Prism, Kaptin, Heroes, Dexter, and Chances R), mixed live sound
(Chalis, and Daviat), and owned Rainbow Recording Studio until 1985. Mike
and his wife Laurie then moved to Nashville TN to pursue a recording career in
Music City. Recording studio work and live concert mixing have taken him to
every state in the U.S. and around the world. His discography now has over 90
major label albums with acts including: Diamond Rio, Restless Heart,
BlackHawk, Faith Hill, Ronnie Milsap, John Michael Montgomery, Michael W.
Smith, Amy Grant, and Poco. Thirty million albums, dozens of gold and
platinum albums, nearly 100 top 40 singles, and two sons, have all helped to
grow his love for making records and motivating artists to innovate and achieve
When asked about future plans Clute said, “I am starting a new company called
Clutopia that brings together my production company and my innovative
concepts for a successful record label in the “new” music business.” Mike's
advice for musicians was, “Creation spawns opportunities, and if you continue
to create there will always be opportunities!
you expect, but you're always right where you're supposed to be!”
The 53rd Annual Grammy Awards were held Sunday, February 13, 2011, at the
Staples Center in Los Angeles. The most prestigious music industry award, the
Grammy, is presented annually by the National Academy of Recording Arts and
Sciences. They are awarded by the voting members of the Academy to honor
excellence in the arts and sciences of the recording. It's truly a peer honor,
awarded by and to artists and technical professionals for artistic or technical
achievement, regardless of sales or chart positions. It's the equivalent of the
Emmy Awards for television, Tony Awards for the stage, and the Oscar for film. www.clutopia.com www.diamondrio.com www.grammy.com
