Daga Wins Rotherley Construction inc. Stakes & Trophy Feature

Feb. 23, 2011 - PRLog -- The Lord Michael Taylor owned, Andy Ward trained Daga was a convincing winner of the feature Rotherley Construction Inc. Stakes & Trophy (Condition Race) for Imported (Non-West Indian Bred) 3-year-olds, run over 1570 metres.

Daga was looking for her third straight win, and Jockey Jalon Samuel gave her every chance to prove herself put tucking her in on the rail just off the early pace set by Nomoreginrog, until turning for home when he brought her with a well timed sweeping run to go on to win with a bit in hand. Second was the Bill & Hayley Blevin owned Giovedi, trained by Jonathan Simpson, and ridden by Reshawn Latchman, while stablemate Graeme Hill finished third and Nomoreginrog held on for fourth.

They were two supporting feature races, the first being the Rotherley Construction Inc. BTBA Sales Graduates 3-year-old Colts & Geldings Stakes & Trophy, going 1100 metres. This was won by the Lord Michael Taylor owned Vitality, trained by Andy Ward. Jalon Samuel had the leg up on the handsome young dark bay colt, and made no mistake. He broke smartly from the gate, and from there it was just a matter of who would collect the minor parts of the purse. In the end it was stable companion Must Be In The Money with Kyle Carter in the irons that finished second. Dunwiddat was third and Whatadeal fourth. The win was also the third straight for Vitality.

The other supporting feature was the Rotherley Construction Inc. BTBA Sales Graduates 3-year-old Fillies Stakes & Trophy (Condition Race) for West Indian Bred 3-year-old Fillies, going 1100 metres. This was won by the Sir. Charles Williams & Lady Williams owned Slip Stream, trained by Andrew Nunes. This flying bay filly with Anderson Trotman in control flew out of the gates like a missile set on a target, which was the finishing line, and there was no defense to stop her, as the others just could not cope with her speed. She went on to win as she liked. The Christopher Gibbs owned Indian Soul trained by Boston John, and ridden by Kenny John was second. Sweet Bottom Suzy was third and Reprise fourth.

Sir Charles Williams certainly must be pleased with the dominant way in which Slip Stream put away her opponents, for he not only owns the filly with his wife Lady Williams, but he also bred the filly. Two other horses bred by Sir Charles won on the day. Vitality won the third race
and Captain Sully won race five. Leading jockey Jalon Samuel continues to show his class, as he landed three winners, Vitality in race three, Captain Sully in race five and Daga in race seven. Anderson Trotman and Reshawn Latchman both won two races.

Leading trainer Anderson Ward extended his lead by saddling three winners, Vitality, Captain Sully and Daga, all owned by Lord Michael Taylor. Judging from the crowd yesterday, come March 5, the next race day, which is Sandy Lane Gold Cup Day, the Garrison is going to be packed.
