WHO: Family and friends of Lori Paul, brain tumor patient, Cue’s Billiards of Marietta and other Atlanta area businesses WHAT: Love is Blind: The Lori Paul Benefit Pool and dart tournaments will be held as well as prize raffles WHEN: Saturday, February 26, 2011, 6:00pm – 11:00pm Photo and Interview opportunities available throughout the event, please RSVP prior to 3PM day of event. WHERE: Cue’s Billiards - 3354 Canton Road - Marietta, Georgia 30066 WHY: Lori Paul is the mother of one adult and four small children, including a set of twins and one special needs child, and wife of an ex-marine and current part-time Paulding County firefighter. Diagnosed in 1999 with a Meningioma brain tumor on her right optic nerve sheath, she underwent radiation treatment in 2000. However, the tumor began to grow again eventually causing complete blindness in her right eye. The tumor is now causing pain that requires daily medication as well as visible disfigurement. Left untreated, the Meningioma could possibly cause eventual blindness in her other eye. As a mother with four young children, surgery is essential to her ability to continue normal daily functions. Emory University has overseen her treatment from the onset. However, now tumor removal is required. In Lori’s case, the most equipped facility in this country to perform this procedure via least invasive means is the Skull Base Institute in Los Angeles under the direction of Dr. Hrayr Shahinian. This benefit is to help raise funds to cover travel and medical costs that aren’t covered by insurance. # # # Hope for Grey Matters, Inc. provides assistance and resources to benign brain tumor and related brain injury patients while increasing public awareness and education of brain tumor and brain injury.
