Residents Appreciate Dryer Vent Installation Tips from the Dallastown Wizard

Professional dryer vent installation is recommended to ensure dryer safety and efficiency

Feb. 22, 2011 - PRLog -- Dallastown, PA – Proper dryer vent installation requires a good understanding of how a dryer vent system functions.  Tumbling laundry is dried by forced heat produced by natural gas or electricity.  In order for clothes to dry, the hot, moist air must escape the dryer.

A poorly installed dryer vent system will restrict airflow and cause a dryer to work harder, consume more energy, and eventually lead to malfunction or a dryer fire.

Jerry Strausbaugh, owner of Dryer Vent Wizard, recommends professional dryer vent installation to ensure safety and efficiency.  When Jerry inspects a dryer vent system, there are many things he is looking for to be sure it meets current safety standards.  “The dryer vent pipe should be made of rigid material, 4 inches in diameter,” said Strausbaugh.  “The flexible foil or vinyl tubing is not acceptable.”

Following are more tips provided by dryer vent service specialist, Jerry Strausbaugh:

The dryer duct should be smooth inside to reduce lint accumulation.  Pieces should be joined with foil tape, not screws that protrude to the inside which can catch and trap lint.

By law, all clothes dryers must be vented to the outdoors.  With a gas dryer, the dryer vent system also removes gas by-products, like carbon monoxide, from the home.

The dryer duct should be installed with as few turns as possible and the shorter the run, the better.  The longer the dryer duct, the harder the dryer works to force the hot air to the vent outside.

Use straps to support the duct so that there are no low points for lint to collect and build up.  Use a level to set horizontal sections with a slight fall to prevent moisture from collecting.

Jerry Strausbaugh encourages everyone, even the DIY homeowner, to have their dryer vent system inspected for safety.  Dryer Vent Wizard technicians find a problem with 9 out of 10 dryer vent systems that have never been seen by a dryer exhaust specialist.  Visit to learn more.
