Life Through a Lens for Welsh Artist
Acclaimed Welsh artist Holly Davey will be visiting the Glynn Vivian on Friday 25 February, at 1pm, as part of the ongoing programme of free talks organised by the Swansea art gallery.
Holly works predominantly with ideas of performance, architecture and memory, and engages closely with her chosen environment to stimulate her initial creative processes.
Over the last year, Holly’s art practice has gradually developed, moving away from photographic performances to working with moving image and the notion of performance to the lens.
Holly said, “I have established a new and exciting way of working with site, using the history or architecture of a location as a starting place for research.”
“I seek out the hidden stories of a place, its original uses, people that work there, until I find something that sparks my imagination and enables me to create a new narrative.”
“My process means that I work closely with social history, community and archival collections mostly online and library based. “
Through her exceptional series of recent commissions, Holly has become the recipient of a prestigious Creative Wales Award.
