“When developing Opolis, we always asked ourselves: How can we make Email security an experience?”, says Christian Forstner, the mastermind behind Opolis. “We wanted to ensure that Opolis is fun and absolutely user-friendly”.

And then, the sender of an ordinary Email never really knows what the recipient has actually done with it or whether the message was even misused”, he says. - Mr Forstner, a veteran telecoms entrepreneur, should know: When floating his telecoms company Cybertron in 1997, he saw confidential Emails ending up with individuals who should never have received them.

“All providers we know limit Email security merely to encryption of messages. And then all too often sender and recipient have to exchange codes to access their mails. That’s not good enough and not user-friendly”, says Andreas Wiesenfeld, a long time partner of Mr Forstner. “In Opolis all encryption steps are integrated in one service: Emails are immediately encrypted when pressing the send button and instantly – without any delay - available for the recipient. We also wanted to ensure that the sender of an Email has sole discretion over it: Hence, the sender decides if an Email may be copied, printed, forwarded or not. And, the sender is also in a position to monitor how Emails have been further processed.”

Opolis Emails are accessed from anywhere in the world by a mail client. “We also tested Opolis in an internet café in Vietnam by sending an Email with an encrypted 125MB attachment. - Try that with your ordinary Email application and you will already fail sending a 15MB file, without encryption”, adds Mr Forstner.
