-- Sun Toyota, a leading Toyota dealer in New Port Richey, FL, is pleased to announce that Toyota has sold 8.42 million vehicles globally in 2010, achieving world status as the top automaker for the third year in a row.
Toyota encountered car recalls in one of its most important markets, North America, yet still managed to sell 8.42 million vehicles in 2010. The Japanese company’s global sales, including truck-maker Hino Motors Ltd and small car maker Daihatsu Motor Co, shot up by 8 per cent from 2009. This important increase in Toyota’s total sales came as a result of the phenomenal sales performance in China and other Asian countries.
Last year, Toyota managed to sell 1.94 million vehicles in the North American market. In the Japanese market, Toyota sales increased by 10 per cent in 2010 topping a total of 2.20 million vehicles sold that year. This rise in the total Toyota sales came as a result of government-introduced tax breaks and incentives offered on green cars. Toyota sold 315,669 units of its internationally acclaimed hybrid car Prius; which numbers are sure to increase in the U.S., as well given President Obama’s recent proposal of new tax energy credits for the purchase of hybrid vehicles.
Toyota’s overseas sales increased seven percent to 6.21 million vehicles. Toyota vehicle sales went up by 19% in China and 24% in other Asian nations.
