Feb. 21, 2011 - PRLog -- With unrest in riot torn Libya and Internet access in a semi-brownout situation, concerned bit.LY users assured of uninterrupted service with free tracking capabilities from world's first bilingual and Tex-Mex URL Shortener, TXn.MX.

Expressing deep concern for worried Internet URL shortener kingpin bit.LY whose rise to fame  was a result of then itself fledgling Internet behemoth social network Twitter making the NY based but Libyan domain name extension web site its default URL shortener, newcomer to the URL shortening world wild west show http://TXn.MX has offered to take up the slack should the dot LY service be shit down or suffer service interruption.

"No one should panic," said a TXn.MX spokesman, who requested anonymity, claiming that it had nothing to do with his legal status or citizenship but rather was the new company's effort to model itself after incredibly successful bit.LY's cleverly carefree style of  not providing a customer help phone number or anything in the way of customer service of any obvious use other than an email link.

The age of customer service dead in America, and we proudly jump on the bandwagon. Our URLs are the shortest in the world right now, and TXn.MX is the same length as bit.LY. The difference is that they are so good at shortening URLs that theire short URLs are up to six characters in length, while with us being new and also a three character domain name, TXn, and a Mexican extension, .MX, loyal users who choose a non US domain name to shorten their URLs on for whatever reason can feel safe and secure in that their outsourcing of patriotism need only cross the Rio Grande now rather than clear across the pond to Libya.

Like most URL shorteners, the TXn.MX site uses a real big font to disguise the fact that URL shorteners really don't do much of anything except save you some space on Twitter, and while that is of actual value, it hardly warrants making such a big hoopla out of it to impress you, and then try to rake you over the coals by charging for you being able to look at your own tracking data.

Lacking the multi-million dollar funding angels that bit.LY has received in the last several years from big American business concerns such as AOL Mitch Kapor and others, to the tune of at least $13.5 million dollars since 2009, TXn.MX is managing so far to squeeze by on a budget of zero, after buying their domain name from Godaddy and then some hosting.

The site hails itself as http://TXn.MX, the World's Leading  (only) Tex-Mex URL Shortener, and the home page proceeds to mix Spanish and Ingles to show unity across borders with the US and its neighbors to the south, offering sensible advice such as "para el espanol pulse dos" which is advised to repeat softly to yourself rather than have to call their non existent customer help line, and also "Presidente Obama derribe este muro.."

"Some people think we are being flippant with that but if every major American corporation can have an answering machine say it why can't we? Just because we have no phone? Poppycock. We will not be so easily discouraged. And the border fence we feel is way too expensive, plus we hear that you can climb it in 19 seconds. Sooner or later though someone will fall off it and get hurt and then the lawsuits? Why not land mines instead? Or just build casinos on the Mexican side and then we'll be crossing THEIR border?"

Indeed, in an effort to offer serious solidarity and alternative solutions to the border brouhahas over illegal immigration, the site has gone as far as to offer the user prompt for entering the URL to be shortened in two languages, which is possibly the first URL Shortener to ever do so:

"URL GRANDE" for the Spanish, and "BIGGUN" for the Texan.

"Who knows? We may even win an award of some sort for that," speculated the TXn.MX spokeperson.

"'Tweet' we didn't know how to translate, but we figured that today's Internet user is so sophisticated that they would be able to figure that one out by themselves, especially if they are on Twitter. If it turns out to be a problem, we'll write a user manual. Or tweet one for that matter. Why not? If Larry King can announce his retirement in a Tweet? Why can't the world's first Tex-Mex URL shortener write its user manual in a Tweet? We ARE in the golden age of communication you realize.

"I'd like to say more about our business plans and strategy for the future," the anonymous TXn.MX spokesperson added, "but there's really nothing more I can disclose at this time, not that I don't want to, it's just that there ISN'T anything more. It's a URL shortener, and aside from the Tex-Mex angle, there's really not a whole lot to say, you realize. We plan to ask bit.LY out of school how they get away glomming 13.5 mill. In the meantime? Keep your short URLs safe on this side of the world if south of the border, and thanks for your support."
