Children to learn fire safety tips thanks to Ramada Plaza

One of Southport’s leading hotels has teamed up with Merseyside Fire and Rescue to educate children about fire safety before they are entertained by one of TV’s favourite firemen.

Feb. 21, 2011 - PRLog -- The Ramada Plaza has invited the fire service to talk to schoolchildren about how to prevent fires starting and what to do in the event of an emergency. The session ties in with the Fireman Sam Live show at the Southport Theatre and Convention Centre next door to the hotel on Wednesday, February 23.

Ramada Plaza Hotel General Manager Enda Rylands said: “We are committed to our local community and thought this was an ideal opportunity to teach children about the risks of fire and smoke at a young age. The knowledge of the fire service will be really beneficial and educational for these youngsters.”

The children will be able to ask their local firefighters questions and look around a fire engine before seeing the popular TV character in the live stage show. Fireman Sam Live features all the favourites from the television show and follows Sam making heroic rescues with his colleagues Elvis Cridlington and Penny Morris.

Station Manager Jim Martin said: “This is a fantastic opportunity to speak with young people about fire safety in a fun environment. Educating children from a young age about the dangers of fire, what to do in an emergency and the importance of smoke alarms can save lives and what better way to do this than to team up with Fireman Sam!”

The fire service will be at the Ramada Plaza from 12pm before the Fireman Sam Live starts at 1.30pm.

Mr Rylands added: “It’s great for us to use our close links with the theatre and convention centre in a way that benefits children from our local area. We’ve also got some great offers for half-term week and we’re also expecting a high number of people to stay at the hotel after the show.”
