Feb. 20, 2011 - PRLog -- No one has doubt that social development and social justice are indispensable for the achievement and maintenance of peace and security within and among nations and that, in turn, social development and social justice cannot be attained in the absence of peace and security or in the absence of respect for all human rights and fundamental freedoms.

Globalization and interdependence has undoubtedly opened up new opportunities through trade, investment and capital flows and advances in technology for the growth of the world economy and the development as well as improvement of living standards around the world. However, developing countries as well as some countries with economies in transition, face serious challenges such as financial crises, insecurity, poverty, exclusion and inequality within and among societies and considerable obstacles to further integration and full participation in the global economy.

The principles of social justice are truly upheld and advanced by promoting gender equality and the rights of indigenous peoples and migrants as well as by removing barriers that people face because of gender, age, race, ethnicity, religion, culture or disability.

On 26 November 2007, the United Nations declared that, starting from the sixty-third session of the General Assembly, 20 February will be celebrated annually as the World Day of Social Justice.

On 20 February 2011 to mark the occasion of World Day of Social Justice with theme “Achieving Social Protection for All”, Prof BR Natarajan Pro Vice Chancellor along with other faculty members highlighted the importance of the day to the students of Way to Transform Shridhar University Pilani Rajasthan and urged them to play a responsible role in poverty eradication, generation of employment through entrepreneurship, bringing about gender equity and access to social well-being as well as justice for all.
