Feb. 18, 2011 - PRLog -- The ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 will be played in three South Asian countries: India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. The World Cup will use cricket's ODI  format, with 14 national cricket squads scheduled to compete. The World Cup will take place from 19th February to 2nd April 2011. The first match to be played on 19 February 2011 between India and Bangladesh playing at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur, Dhaka and the final at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on 2 April 2011.

Qualification for ICC Cricket World Cup 2011

As per ICC regulations, all 10 countries which are Australia, New Zealand, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Zimbabwe, Bangladesh, England, South Africa, West Indies automatically qualify for the World Cup.

The ICC also conducted a qualifying event in South Africa to decide which Associate teams would participate in 2011 tournament. Ireland, who had been the best playing Associate country since the last World Cup, won the tournament, defeat Canada in the final. The Netherlands and Kenya also qualified by high merit of finishing third and fourth respectively.

The Opening Ceremony was conducted in Bangladesh. The venue for the opening ceremony was Bangabandhu National Stadium in Dhaka, Bangladesh. The event took place on 17 February 2011, 2 days earlier to the first match of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011.

All the Indian grounds for the ICC Cricket World Cup2011 had been finalized earlier, and the venues of Bangladesh and Sri Lanka were finalised in late October 2009. All the stadiums of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 were announced on 2nd November 2009 in Mumbai by the International Cricket Council. Two new venues in Sri Lanka have been constructed for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011, they are located in Kandy and Hambantota.
