Blackpool Hospitals improve healthcare services through Emerald research
Case Study illustrates how using peer-reviewed research contributes to improving healthcare services
To answer queries from senior managers and requests received through the Clinical Librarian Service, the Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust Management Librarian relied on high quality research evidence, including literature published in Emerald Healthcare Management titles. Under the skilled filtering and consideration of the librarian, selected articles were put forward to provide evidence of best practice and support the design and adoption of clinical pathways for all services.
Debra Thornton, Knowledge and Library Services Manager at Blackpool Teaching Hospitals, comments: “the research published in Emerald journals has been extremely valuable when gathering all the facts to support important strategic decisions. This fits with the hospital’s culture to ground its strategy in evidence-based practice. The impact so far has been highly positive for the hospital during a time of great change.”
