Feb. 16, 2011 - PRLog -- Birmingham City were sporting blue even in their earliest incarnation as Small Heath Alliance back in 1875, although the shade was navy (not royal as worn today) and adorned with a large white sash.

From 1893 to 1900 the team experimented with variations of black and amber and also sky blue before settling on royal blue in 1905 which coincided with the change of name to Birmingham City. Blue football jerseys have been worn by the side ever since, combined with either blue or white shorts and blue or white socks.

One of the more memorable home kits was the famous ‘Penguin’ outfit produced by Umbro and sported from 1971-1976. The blue shirt featured a broad white vertical panel down the front and has been revived in various guises a handful of times since. Never associated with a customary away kit, the club have worn a wide array of mainly red, white or yellow change strips through the years, with red also often appearing as a trim colour on the home kit.

The 1970s was clearly an interesting time for the Birmingham (http://www.vintagefootballshirts.com/product-list.php?Ret...) kit man. As well as the Penguin home shirt, the side also donned one of their most infamous away outfits, the red, black and amber German flag affair. Brewers, Ansells, were the club’s first shirt sponsor back in 1983, with Auto Windscreens the longest, in a relationship that ran from 1995 to 2001.
