The event is the world's fourth major and most viewed sporting event. According to the ICC, it is the most important event and the top of achievement in the sport. The first ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 contest was organised in England in the year of 1975. A separate Women's ICC Cricket World Cup has been held every four years from 1973.

Australia has been the most victorious of the five teams to have won the competition, taking four titles. The West Indies have won the ICC Cricket World Cup two times and Pakistan, India, and Sri Lanka have each won once.
Last ICC Cricket World Cup was held between 13th March to 28th April 2007, in the West Indies. The 2007 competition had sixteen squads challenging in a group stage (played in round-robin format), then a "super 8" stage, followed by semi-finals and a final. Australia beaten Sri Lanka in the final to retain the competition.
The ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 will be held between 19th February to 2nd April 2011. The event will be co-hosted by Bangladesh, India and Sri Lanka. There are 14 nations that are contributing in the tournament.

The first international cricket match was played between Canada and the United States, on the September 24th and 25th in the year of 1844. However, the first official Test match was played in 1877 between Australia and England, and the two teams competed frequently for The Ashes in succeeding years. South Africa was admitted to Test position in 1889. Representative cricket squads were selected to tour each other, resulting in two-sided competition.

The inaugural ICC Cricket World Cup was hosted in 1975 by England, the only country able to put forward the wealth to stage an event of such magnitude at that time. The 1975 tournament started on June 7. The first three tournaments were held in England. The competition consisted of 60 six-ball overs per team, played in the daytime in traditional form, with the players dress in white color dress and using red color cricket balls.

Eight teams played in the first ICC Cricket world cup: They are Australia, Pakistan, England, the West Indies, India, and New Zealand, (the six Test nations at the time), jointly with Sri Lanka and a composite team from East Africa. The first ICC Cricket World Cup was won by the West Indies, who beaten Australia by 17 runs in the final match at Lord's.
