"It just doesn't make sense to spend a lot of time on 'core training'  when your goal is fat reduction," explains Matt Crowley, certified Perfect Personal Training, who holds an associates degree in exercise science.  "Core training develops great muscles, but will generally not burn much fat.  And, it tends to be a bit less safe if you're overweight, also."

Brian Walters, also of Perfect Personal Training, elaborates:  "To burn bodyfat, you generally want to aim for big muscle movements, and to put your heartrate in a moderate to high intensity zone.  This doesn't happen very well with conventional core training."
