Feb. 11, 2011 - PRLog -- Open Mic UK singing competition audition dates have been announced for the 2011 Open Mic music competition, with over 9,000 entrants last year the 2011 competition is set to be the biggest yet!

Open Mic UK is the largest national music competition for singers and solo artists in the UK, the competition travels across the country every year in search of the UK's best singers, singer/songwriters, rappers and vocalists. It's open to all genres, so whether you’re into R’n’B, Rap, Acoustic, Pop or Classical – Open Mic UK has it all! Acts can perform either covers or original material and they’ll be invited to a live audition in front of the judging panel.

Those who make it through the audition stage will go on to perform across the UK in Live shows, in front of an audience and judging panel, for the chance to sing at the Grand Final. The panel is made up of industry insiders, A&R, vocal coaches and guest celebrities. Last year former Another Level star Dane Bowers and R’n’B sensation and double Mobo award winner Shola Ama were both on the panel.  This year the judging panel is set to also add Radio 1’s Ras Kwame and Tom Deacon to its ranks.

Acts who make it through to the Live shows also get to take to the stage at some of the UK’s most prestigious venues including Glasgow Royal Concert Hall, Cardiff Coal Exchange, The NEC and Portsmouth Guildhall, following in the footsteps of famous acts such as James Blunt, Russell Watson and Katy Perry. These fantastic venues all lead up to acts playing the Grand Final at the UK’s most recognised music venue, the O2 in London.

There are plenty of opportunities to win prizes throughout the competition. Including over £50,000 worth of prizes up for grabs and the winning act will be offered a development and management contract to develop their music. Competing acts will also have the chance to perform live in some of the best music venues in the country.

Open Mic UK has a good pedigree for success with last year’s category winner, Hatty Keane going from strength to the strength. The teen sensation has recently signed with BGM and is on track for the biggest year of her life, as she works toward releasing her first single later in 2011. Previous winner Birdy, is also well on the road to success with her latest single currently being played by Fearne Cotton on Radio 1, and all at the tender age of 14!

The competition is divided into age categories; Under 16, 16-23, and over 23. All types of singers, vocal performers, groups and acoustic singer/songwriters are invited to enter Open Mic UK. It’s all about finding an act that has the ability to become a professional recording artist.

So, if you think you’ve got what it takes, get on the mic for Open Mic UK 2011!
Auditions will start in August 2011. For dates, venues, more information and to enter now go to www.openmicuk.co.uk
