Feb. 10, 2011 - PRLog -- Celtics fans have another reason to cheer every time star guard Ray Allen scores a three-pointer this season.  Ray and his mother, Flora Allen-Hopson, are partnering with the Joslin Diabetes Center on Ray’s $3 for 3’s to raise money for diabetes research and care.

Fans are invited to commit a $3 donation to the Joslin Diabetes Center’s High Hopes Fund for each 3-point shot Ray makes during the 2010 – 2011 Boston Celtics basketball season.  Participants will have the option of either supporting the program for the entire season, or they may choose a specific month to participate. At the end of the Celtics season, the Joslin Diabetes Center and Flora Allen-Hopson will host a special VIP reception to thank full-season supporters who donated $3 for each 3-point shot.   Season long participants will also be entered into monthly raffles and have the exclusive option to bid on exciting opportunities such as sitting courtside with Mrs. Allen for the VIP Celtics experience.

“When Ray told me that Walker was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes, I was devastated, not only for little Walker, but also for my son and daughter-in-law.  No mother wants to see her son face something like this, but I knew Ray and Shannon would overcome their worry to get the best care for Walker.  And they did, thanks to the Joslin Diabetes Center,” said Mrs. Allen.  “As Ray’s number one fan, I’m excited to cheer him on this season as he supports the Joslin High Hopes Fund and the millions of families living with diabetes today.”

All proceeds from Ray’s 3 for 3’s will support the Joslin Diabetes Center’s High Hopes Fund, which supports Joslin’s efforts to improve the lives of people with diabetes through care, education and research, and to prevent and cure the disease.
