"Souper Bowl" Sunday and Givig at newhope church

Feb. 10, 2011 - PRLog -- “Souper Bowl” is a national movement in which churches, schools and other organizations use Super Bowl Football weekend to gather food donations and help tackle hunger across the nation.  On a day in which the societal norm is to indulge in food and alcohol, get lost in branding, and worship the idol of sports, newhopers showed up with compassion-filled hearts to meet the 2,000 can “Souper Bowl” goal and surpass it by 1,400 cans!    Amidst the festivity and tradition, newhopers put aside the norm to instead feed those who cannot indulge, to perhaps encourage the lost to be found, all to “honor The One truly worthy of worship and praise”.  Pastor Benji Kelley, newhope church Senior Pastor, says “I am so proud of you, newhope.  I am blown away and so thankful for each of you!  Your heart, passion, faith, compassion for the lost and for those less fortunate is nothing short of beautiful.  I am so honored and humbled to serve as your pastor.”

This isn’t the first time the community has seen this kind of generosity from newhope.  newhope church embodies a culture of giving.  During newhope’s Tree of Hope 2010, newhopers supported and blessed over 1000 families in need through a partnership with Durham Cares, almost doubling donations from the previous year.  As this church grows and brings more people into the culture of giving, the community impact is sure to continue to grow as well.

Hope Mission International, newhope’s international missions team, will be traveling to Bohoc, Haiti April 1 – 7, 2011, and Kiria, Kenya July 28 – August 6, 2011 where they will be extending the newhope culture of giving to make an international impact.  The service trip to Haiti and Kenya will focus on building relationships, working alongside the local people in building and improving their communities, and helping them to create a sustainable community dedicated to the Lordship of Jesus Christ.
