Follow on Google News | National Marriage Week USA Proclamation IssuedAt the request of Better Marriages, the nation's leading nonprofit marriage enrichment organization, Kansas Governor issues a Proclamation declaring February 7-14, 2011 National Marriage Week.
By: Better Marriages This proclamation is part of a national movement which is a collaborative effort to encourage many diverse groups to strengthen individual marriages, reduce the divorce rate and build a stronger marriage culture, which in turn helps curtail poverty and benefits children. “Marriage works,” says Better Marriages Executive Director, Priscilla Hunt. “Research shows that marriage makes people happier, live longer, and build more economic security. Children with married parents perform better in school, have less trouble with the law, fewer teen pregnancies and fewer issues with addiction. Deep down, everyone wishes they could have a rewarding, mutually-satisfying, lifelong relationship with their spouse. But in the midst of challenges, we can lose sight of this desire. Skills to keep marriages healthy and strong aren’t picked up by osmosis – they are learned. Marriage breakdown is costly to our kids and to society at large. Divorce and unwed childbearing cost the U.S. taxpayers a whopping $112 billion annually. In these economically challenging times, building stronger marriages helps build a stronger nation.” “Most folks don’t know where to go to get the help they need,” said Bob and Sally Harris, President Couple of Better Marriages. “Better Marriages, a nonprofit founded in 1973, offers hundreds of marriage classes, groups and events all around the country to help couples strengthen their own marriage, or to reach out and help others. Better Marriages also provides books, articles, exercises and other resources for couples of all ages and stages of relationship. Folks can locate an event near them and relationship resources at http://www.bettermarriages.org. According to Hunt, “Investing in your relationship pays great dividends.” To read the proclamation, visit http://www.bettermarriagesfiesta.com/ # # # Founded in 1973 as Association for Couples in Marriage Enrichment by David and Vera Mace, Better Marriages helps pre-married and married couples of all ages and stages of relationship develop healthy relationships.
