Don’t Be Tempted By Fronting Warns Tiger.co.uk

A survey carried out by the Association of British Insurers (ABI) in 2011 interviewing 2,600 adult motorists revealed that thousands of drivers are prepared to place themselves at risk to save money on motor insurance

Feb. 9, 2011 - PRLog -- The survey reported that over half of the people interviewed would be happy to put an older driver down as the main driver on the vehicle when in fact the younger driver intends to be doing most of the driving. This is commonly known as ‘fronting’ which is an illegal activity as it presents a far higher risk to insurance providers than that stated in the application for the policy.

This is only one of several examples of falsification, or failure to disclose the whole truth that were revealed by the report. Other findings included; One in every five drivers would be happy to exaggerate the time lapsed since their last claim; One in every ten said that they wouldn’t rule out the possibility of altering important details such as age, occupation or address when obtaining car insurance quotes, and there were some who were prepared to avoid stating that they had relevant motoring convictions at all!

But fraud doesn’t pay. If you find yourself in the unfortunate position of having to make a claim and it is discovered that the policy has been based on false information, you are likely to find that your insurer will not pay out. Worse, it could be classed as a fraudulent claim. If it is found to be fraudulent you could be held responsible not only for your own costs, but the costs for anyone else who has been affected by the accident.

A spokesperson from Tiger.co.uk gave the following advice:
“Ensure that you shop around for your insurance, comparison sites are an easy way to look at car insurance quotes from most leading insurers quickly, shopping around need not be time consuming. When shopping around online consider the following tips;

1.   When you are filling out the details to obtain a quote consider adjusting the excess level to bring the premium costs down

2.   Consider whether you want to pay in one lump payment or monthly – there are often charges applied for paying in instalments

3.   Be specific about your occupation, some occupations are perceived as higher risk than others, you must always be honest as inaccuracy can invalidate a claim, but it is possible that you could your reduce premiums”.
