Feb. 8, 2011 - PRLog -- Fostering, supporting and advancing entrepreneurship between college students, established businesses and start-up companies will be the goal of the new Entrepreneurship Development Program (EDP) formed between Monroe College and the National Minority Business Council (NMBC).
EDP will offer NMBC members opportunities to continue their studies through Monroe’s Small Business Development Center.  Additionally, a speakers’ bureau focusing on entrepreneurship will be assembled from both organizations.  Lastly, a Women’s Global Entrepreneurial Leadership initiative will be launched in conjunction with NMBC’s annual Women’s Business Leadership Conference in October, with the intent of fostering working relationships between Monroe students and NMBC members.
“There is a synergy of missions between Monroe College and the National Minority Business Council,” noted Karenann Carty, Ed.D., Dean of Academics at Monroe’s New Rochelle, NY campus (www.monroecollege.edu). “Both organizations are driving forces in nurturing and developing careers. Monroe’s associate, bachelors and masters degrees are all oriented towards job-readiness. The college serves as a launch pad for young adults in the early discovery stages of their professional lives, as well as a fresh start for ‘adult students’ seeking higher education or the opportunity to prepare for new careers.”
“The National Minority Business Council helps sustain both established businesses and start-ups,” added John F. Robinson, president and CEO of NMBC (www.nmbc.org).  “We do this through entrepreneurship ‘boot camps’, annual seminars, and periodic workshops, all designed to re-charge our members’ batteries and update their skills with training in the latest trends, ideas and tools for working smarter.”
