Two New Books on Parental Grief Speak to the Heart and Not the Head

Feb. 8, 2011 - PRLog -- After Terri Ann Leidich’s twenty-year-old son was suddenly killed in an accident, she searched for something or someone who could or would help her realistically deal with the pain and emotions around her horrible loss. “People would bring me books about loss and grief, but they were about the stages of grief and when bad things happen to good people, which gave me information, but I wasn’t at a stage where I could assimilate that information because my heart had emotionally been ripped from my body,” Leidich states.

During the time of her grief, Leidich kept a journal and now, years later, has turned that journal into two books that speak to the pain, emotion and devastating experience of losing a child. "From a Grieving Mother’s Heart" was written directly from Leidich’s journal and chronicles some of the personal experiences of the days, months and years of the emotional roller coaster of grief that parents who have lost children experience. “One of the most confusing and gut-wrenching experiences for me,” Leidich confides, “was the way that the people around me expected me to ‘recover’ and move on within days and weeks of my loss. And how, after a couple of years, their compassion was almost non-existent.  The reality is a parent never gets over the loss of a child, we learn how to live around it.”

Kristin Wilson who lost her adult son in March of 2010, purchased Leidich’s book and recently sent her this note, “I have a hard time describing how it moves me. It is difficult but in a good way. It makes me want to travel back in time and wrap my arms around you to comfort you and myself. It says to me that I am not alone, and there is someone out there who experienced and felt everything I have. WOW...it is just powerful the way it affects me.”

Leidich’s second book, "For a Grieving Heart" is filled with the poetry she wrote along with beautiful photography that conveys similar feelings. This book was designed as a gift book to give to someone who is suffering the loss of a child.
