Feb. 8, 2011 - PRLog -- The internet may not be the best place to seek a medical diagnosis, with the chance of a misdiagnosed condition highly likely. However it is increasingly being used as a first port of call for many people before visiting a doctor. A wealth of information exists to provide a likely list of causes, which helps people to decide whether a doctor’s visit is simply wise, or an absolute necessity.  A wealth of websites have been released on the most common ailments, however this week saw the release of a new website to provide help and advice on plantar fasciitis and heel spurs.

When it comes to foot pain, the most likely causes are plantar fasciitis and heel spurs. Between 10 and 15% of doctors visits regarding foot pain are attributed to this painful foot condition, which can strike anywhere between the heel and the ball of the foot. Plantar fasciitis symptoms usually include heel pain, an d it is the most likely cause. Diagnosis of the condition is made with a case history, physical examination and an x-ray. Whilst the plantar fascia does not show up on an x-ray, it is useful to help eliminate bone defects and stress fractures, and the presence of heel spurs makes the condition more likely.

It has been estimated that 10% of Americans will suffer from this painful foot condition at some point during their lifetimes.  Jennifer Lee, a sufferer of the condition has set up a new website this week to provide clues as to whether the cause of foot pain could be due to plantar fasciitis.  Jennifer Lee released http://www.plantarfasciitissymptoms.net to allow for a quick check on the likelihood of the condition being the culprit, and to provide tips on useful treatment options, as well as exercises which can be completed at home to ease the pain from the condition.

“The early diagnosis of the condition is of paramount importance in enjoying a quick recovery” says Jennifer. It’s true that whilst the condition can be caused by a rupture or major tear in the plantar fascia, in most cases it develops over a period of time, and if not treated early, can deteriorate. “Fortunately I was able to get a quick diagnosis, and I only needed to treat the condition with shoe inserts and some exercises” she says.  The website covers the basics, and is of great use in a home diagnosis, and important in Jennifer’s mind.  As she says, “at the first signs of any plantar fasciitis symptoms it is wise to seek medical attention”, and the website provides the opportunity for a quick identification so help can quickly be sought.
