Feb. 7, 2011 - PRLog -- Magnified, high-resolution images and videos are captured conveniently with zipScope models introduced by Aven, Inc. The compact wireless and USB microscopes allow immediate computer screen viewing and storage of inspection, medical and research records.

Each version has a ½" color CMOS image sensor, eight white LEDs and anti-slip coating for comfort and durability. An adjustable metal stand can hold the scope to simplify note-taking and extended viewing.

Aven, a manufacturer and global distributor of optical instruments, demonstrates the new zipScope this week at the Medical Device & Manufacturing (MD&M) West exposition in Anaheim, Calif.  "This competitively priced tool is handy for inspection, lab work and skin checks by dermatologists," says Mike Shahpurwala, president of the Michigan-based firm.

Applications include industrial and electronic parts checks, education, presentation slides, textile and printing quality control, fine art and jewelry appraisals, warranty claim documentation, training manuals and close-ups of collectible stamps and coins.

The digital magnification range is 120 times (wireless) or  200 times (hard-wired). Optical magnification is 10x-20x for the wireless design and 10x-50x for the USB model.

Users snap a shutter button rather than tapping a computer key. The image-capture software is compatible with Windows XP, Vista and 7. Resolution is 2 megapixels (USB) or 0.3 megapixels (wireless). Each model features automatic exposure, automatic white balance and a focus range of 10mm to 500mm via a large knob.

The cordless style comes with a USB dongle that plugs into a PC and transmits to the rechargeable microscope, which has a lithium ion battery allowing two hours of constant use. It shoots AVI format video at 15 frames per second. The hard-wired zipScope records at 30 frames per second.

"The zipScope, our second line of hand-held microscopes, broadens Aven's choices of light, freely portable microscopy imaging instruments," says Shahpurwala. "It also upholds our performance and durability standards."
