Feb. 5, 2011 - PRLog -- Plantar fasciitis is one of the most common causes for heel pain, and is frequently diagnosed in doctor’s surgeries. The condition has been estimated to affect 10% of the population of the United States, with the condition accounting for 10-15% of reported foot problems. Whilst the condition is often diagnosed, it is not possible to do this directly in many cases, and is often inferred from a case history and diagnosed after other likely causes have been eliminated. An X-ray is often required to look for heel spurs, the bony growths which often accompany the condition. However these can be present in patients not suffering from plantar fasciitis, and not present in all cases of the painful foot condition.

Treating the condition is often a long process, taking up to 6 weeks in mild cases, and over 12 months in patients with chronic plantar fasciitis.  The problem with the heeling process is that it is not a case of taking time off the feet, with rest often making the condition worse. The plantar fascia needs to be stretched to help the recovery process, with various exercises and devices used to help keep the plantar fascia stretched to help prevent bunching up of the ligament. There are a wide range of products which can be highly beneficial, and a new website has recently been released to explain the different treatment options available. Appropriately named plantarfasciitissplint.net, after one of the most common treatment methods, the site offers information on how to gain pain relief, and offers low cost options for treatment, including exercises which can be easily performed at home at no cost.

Website founder Jenifer Lee has suffered from this painful foot condition, and felt that it would be beneficial to catalogue the treatments she researched when trying to correct her own problem. “Fortunately my case was not severe, so I was able to treat it relatively easily, just with stretching exercises and shoe inserts” she says. Not all cases are so easy to treat. “The site is named after one of the best treatments, the splint, or night splint” she offers.  The plantar fasciitis splint is a device which keeps the plantar fascia stretched, either throughout the day, or as a night splint to prevent the painful morning episodes after time off the feet.  “I have friends who suffer from the condition and have used plantar fasciitis splints and recommend them highly, so it seemed to be the logical name for the website” says Jennifer.
