Talent Management: Yves Saint Laurent’s Belle d’Opium Ad Banned
Talent Management usually loves Yves Saint Laurent’s ads, but their latest one has caused a bit of a stir.
By: Jennifer Denby
Thierry is featured dancing expressively to music in a scene which was choreographed by award-winning dancer Akram Khan, MBE.
Khan devised the movements – in which Thierry is seen running her finger along the inside of her arm – around a concept focusing on the simple and profound.
Unfortunately, that’s not how UK viewers saw it. The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) received thirteen complaints claiming Thierry's movements simulated drug use.
In response, a spokesperson for YSL Beauté said: "The advertisement was not intended to make any reference to drug culture, but to promote the sensuality and seductive qualities of the fragrance in keeping with the Opium brand which was launched by Yves Saint Laurent over thirty years ago."
Whether we agree or not, the ad has now been banned in the UK – but we’re sure that won’t stop the masses, Talent Management girls included, from buying the fragrance.
