Truliant Provides Free Tax Preparation Assistance

Feb. 3, 2011 - PRLog -- Truliant Federal Credit Union is hosting a Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) site at their headquarters at 3200 Truliant Way in Winston-Salem. VITA is a free tax preparation service serving families who make up to $49,000 a year.  

The VITA program is sponsored by the Forsyth Working Families Partnership and assists local communities to help eligible families collect the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC), a federal benefit particularly for families with children. It is estimated that millions of dollars in EITC go unclaimed by eligible working families every year.  

Truliant employees, who are IRS-certified through the program, are volunteering their time to offer member-owners this free service with electronic filing for quick refund, as well as resources for savings and home ownership.  The site will operate Saturdays, 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. until April 16, 2011 in the Fred J. Sarda Pavilion Building off Hanes Mall Blvd.  No appointment is necessary.

Individuals taking advantage of Truliant’s free service need to bring a picture ID, Social Security card or ITIN, and the Social Security card of each independent to be claimed, the employer ITIN or Social Security number of child care providers, W-2 form(s), and 1099(s) or last year’s tax return, if applicable.
