Guns in America "The truth about the 2nd Amendment"

The right to bear arms was based more on oppression than freedom.

Feb. 2, 2011 - PRLog -- The first legislation in California to restrict public carrying of firearms came in 1967 in response to members of the Black Panther party openly carrying guns this prompted the passage of the Mulford Act, prohiniting the public carrying of loaded firearms. Which was signed into law by then Governor  Ronald Reagan. The second Amendment of the Constitution gives all Americans the right to bear arms but the Second Amendment right is not unlimited it does not mean anyone can own any weapon in any manner and for whatever purpose.
Many gun rights advocates have argued that the Tucson shooter Jared lee Loughner who legally purchased his weapon and legally concealed it at Gabrielle Giffords public rally only broke the law when he ruthlessly murdered 6 people and wounded 13 others including Gifford. Many say he might have been stopped if one of the bystanders were carrying a gun. But more than likely in the melee that occurred more innocent bystanders would have been shot by those unable to discern who exactly the shooter was.
Yet one thing is apparent, if you want to silence gun rights supporters the easiest way is to promote 2nd amendment rights in the inner city. Politically whenever anyone suggests that people of color or even gay rights activists should carry firearms for protection the NRA and pro gun supporters are silent.
In a recent survey by the Pew Research Center it was found that 66 percent of African Americans favor stricter gun control laws and 75 percent of Hispanics. Non-Hispanic whites however favored gun rights by a margin of 54 percent to 42 percent.
But what is this Second Amendment   about really? Did the founding fathers set it up to protect the states from governmental tyranny? The key part of the Amendment reads “…A  well regulated  militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.”
Contrary to public opinion an article by Carl T Bogus in the University of California-Davis Law Review Winter 1997 states “The Second Amendment was not enacted to provide a check on government tyranny; rather; it was written to assure the Southern states that the Congress would not undermine the slave system by using its newly acquired constitutional authority over the militia to disarm the state militias of the south and thereby destroy the South’s principal instrument of slave control.”
As is the case today the main motivation for the expansion of gun rights is greed not freedom. James madison the principal Architect of the Amendment owned slaves as did Jefferson and Washington and they did not consider Black people or Native Americans for that matter fully human. They created the Three Fifths Compromise which extolled that all nonwhites specifically those of African descent were Three Fifths human they never fully explained what exactly the other two fifths were, tiger, bear, giraffe, maybe crow, who knows?
In any case as long as any fool without common sense can buy and carry a gun there will be a lot of foolish, senseless shootings.
